Mercenaries 2 looked really nice by Demo. When I actually purchased it, it was fantastic! Some of the game play can be confusing. That is, to know what to do when you are on a mission. For example, I'm supposed to look for HVT's (high value targets) and try to get them extracted via helicopter.
Well, I made the critical mistake of dropping the dude right under where the helicopter landed, killing the HVT and halving my bounty. Live and learn.
There is a huge map, full of twists, turns, and many combat encounters. The objective it fairly straightforward - make as much money as possible by working for different factions. You've got the Universal Petroleum interest, the rebels, and the local army. Each give you different missions or objectives to complete - it is entirely up to you how you approach each. Before each game, there is a hint that comes up. I advise you read those and heed them! They are crucial to figuring out what you need to do.
Beyond the strategy of it, there are many combat opportunities, including demolition of buildings and other structures, hijacking tanks, all sort of marine craft, and getting help from different factions. Don't forget to blow your horn if you capture a fighting vehicle, as nearby friendlies will occupy it to help you along the way. On-line play is pretty nice, too. The only catch to online play is if the other player starts killing the faction you want to be friendly with, suddenly you'll notice they have turned on you, too!
This is a great game for hours of engaging fun!
